PERSONAL BACKGROUND
With roots in the vibrant Portland, Oregon art community of the 1970s, Rosanne has spent many years contributing to the Northwest’s rich tradition of clay and craft. As both manager and instructor at The Potter’s Workshop, she developed within a dynamic collective that helped shape Portland’s creative arts community.
Formally trained under Ray Grimm, widely regarded as a founding father of Oregon ceramics, Rosanne also pursued additional studies at Pasadena City College and Portland State University. This strong educational foundation established a lasting commitment to traditional technique and disciplined studio practice, which continues to inform her evolving body of work.
Rosanne’s practice encompasses both handbuilding and wheel throwing, with a focus on stoneware and porcelain. A particular strength lies in glazing and kiln firing, including the development and refinement of original glaze recipes. Her work centers on functional ceramics—handmade and wheel-thrown pieces that emphasize the balance between utility and beauty, elevating everyday objects through thoughtful craftsmanship.
With over a decade of teaching experience, Rosanne’s instruction is rooted in fostering both technical skill and creative exploration. She emphasizes material understanding, respect for process, and helping students build confidence while developing an individual voice within the ceramic arts.
